Action Alert

Avalanche of protest reverse Dept. of Ed. history proposal

February 11, 2010

Steve Nobles from Called2Action sent this message this morning.

Keep speaking up.

Keep speaking out.

Be engaged with the political process.

Your voice; your vote make a difference.

Friends,

Our efforts to stop the high school history curriculum changes in NC have paid off! The committee in charge of the changes is "going back to the drawing board" according to Rebecca Garland, the Chief Academic Officer for the NC DPI. In a radio interview this morning Ms. Garland referenced the avalanche of emails and calls her office received as an indication that the public would not stand for the proposed changes.

We received several emails from NC high school history teachers that were just as alarmed as we were and many School Board members here in Wake County publicly voiced their opposition as well. Thank you to all of you who took the time to engage! We must remain vigilent and ready to engage as this process moves forward.

Please take a moment to say "Thank You" to Ms. Garland for acting upon our concerns. Her email is rgarland@dpi.state.nc.us

In His Service & Yours,

Steve Noble

Progressive historical revisionism

Steve Noble, our friend at Call2Action in Raleigh, sent me this notice which I want to share with all of you. This story is true. FOX News (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,584758,00.html?mep )and the Heritage Foundation (http://blog.heritage.org/2010/02/05/it-will-be-as-if-the-american-founding-never-happened/) have all covered this curriculum change which would teach 11th grade students American history from 1877 forward.

If you agree with this change, do nothing. If you disagree; please act on Steve’s call to action today.

“The NC Department of Public Education has proposed a new high school history curriculum that starts in 1877, eliminating the very founding of this great nation!

• Abraham Lincoln & The Civil War...GONE!

• George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams...GONE!

• The Revolutionary War...GONE!

• The Founding Principles on which this great nation was established...GONE!

The progressive, historical revisionism that seeks to undermine the Judeo-Christian heritage of our nation is alive and well within the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. When questioned by Fox News, Rebecca Garland, the Chief Academic Officer for the NC DPI said, "We are certainly not trying to go away from American history. What we are trying to do is figure out a way to teach it where students are connected to it, where they see the big idea, where they are able to make connections and draw relationships between parts of our history and the present day."

What kind of an answer is that? OF COURSE they are going away from American history and how can students get "connected to it" if they don't even learn it? What "big idea" are they going to see without an understanding of our nation's founding? The one these progressives want them to see.

Ms. Garland defends the move by pointing out that NC children learn about our nation's founding in middle school. Is a cursory overview of our nation's founding and the following 100 years really going to make a lasting impression on a room full of 12-year olds? Of course not.

We have until February 15th to defeat this scheme! Here is what you need to do:

• Contact Ms. Rebecca Garland by email and phone to demand that this new curriculum be scrapped and that the full history of this nation be taught in NC high schools. Her email is rgarland@dpi.state.nc.us and her phone is (919)807-3305

• Contact our local School Board and demand that they take a stand AGAINST this proposed curriculum!

If we don't stay on this every high school in North Carolina will be forced to ignore our nation's founding. Don't delay! Send your emails and make your calls right away!”

N.C. Representative David Guice has started a petition for the Choose Life License Plate. His goal is 2,000 signatures. We need thousands of signatures. Please pass this information on to your e-mail lists ASAP.

Rep. Gillespie, the primary sponsor of this bill, indicates that despite all of the requests, Speaker Hackney has not allowed this bill to be placed on the committee calendar for a hearing. The link below is putting up a petition -due to go on-line at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, May 6, 2009 - for people to sign. Upon the receipt of 2,000 signatures, they will present it to the Speaker for leverage in getting a committee hearing.

Unfortunately, this is the way North Carolina government will continue working until we elect representatives and senators who understand that they work for all of the people of North Carolina. Rep. Gillespie is doing everything he can to push for the bill's progress. Let's help him. Go to this link and sign the petition.

If you know others who would be willing to sign this petition, please forward the link to them so that as many names as possible can be gathered.
